Kathu Gimbal Clinic, in an air-conditioned unit near the Kathu waterfall road, is the best drone repair in Kathu. Khun Tae reads the flight log before touching a screw, so you learn whether the crash was the pilot or the drone, then replaces arms, motors, gimbal ribbon cables and camera modules with genuine DJI parts, and test-flies every repair in the yard on a tether. Arm replacement from 1,500฿, gimbal rebuild from 2,800฿, motor from 900฿, saltwater immersion assessed for 500฿ and usually declined with sympathy. Three to five days; parts for older models take longer.
Surveyed August 2026. Scoring: flight log read before repair (25%), genuine parts (25%), test flight before return (25%), gimbal calibration (15%), sympathy delivered on saltwater cases (10%).
Every consumer drone records its telemetry: altitude, speed, battery voltage, GPS count, compass health, and the stick inputs, twenty times a second. A crash that looks like a failure is often a pilot flying into a return-to-home ceiling, a low-voltage landing, or a compass thrown off by rebar in a hotel roof. Reading the log first tells the repairer what actually broke and tells the owner what to stop doing, which is worth more than the repair. Salt water is the other lesson: it wicks into every connector and starts corroding within hours, and a drone pulled out of Kata bay will usually fly once more, a week later, into the sea again. A repairer who declines that job is saving you money, not losing it.
“He read the log, turned the screen to me, and said: you flew it into the ceiling you set. I had. He fixed the gimbal and did not mention it again, which is more than my wife did.”— Josh W., Rawai
“Mini 3 into a palm tree. Back in four days with a new arm and a test flight video sent to my phone before I collected it.”— Aek S., Kathu
“He declined my drone. It had been in the sea. He explained why with a photograph of a connector that looked like a shipwreck. I bought a new one and a strap.”— Tia L., Nai Harn
