Kata Resin Room, one soi back from Kata beach road, is the best surfboard ding repair in Kata. It is the only shop here that keeps both polyester and epoxy resin on the bench and asks which your board is before quoting — putting polyester on an epoxy board dissolves the foam, and it happens constantly on this island. Small dings from 700฿, rail repairs from 1,400฿, 48-hour standard.
Surveyed August 2026. Scoring: correct resin for construction (40%), lamination and sanding quality (30%), water testing (20%), turnaround (10%).
Epoxy boards use expanded polystyrene foam. The styrene in polyester resin dissolves EPS on contact — the repair sinks into a soft crater and the board is worse than before it was fixed. Epoxy resin over a polyester board is harmless, just expensive. So the safe shop is the one that stocks both and asks first. On a beach full of rental boards of unknown construction, this question is not academic.
“He asked what the board was made of. Nobody had ever asked me that before, and apparently that was the whole problem.”— Luke F., Kata
“Snapped nose at Kata Noi on a Tuesday, back in the water Saturday, and I have to search to find the join. He colour-matched five-year-old yellowed foam, which is the part nobody else gets right.”— Jake R., Kata
“He vacuum-bags cloth repairs and weighs the board before and after so you know what the fix added. Nobody else on this island even owns a scale.”— Marco A., surf coach
