At Gin a teppanyaki chef cooks your order on the hot plate in front of you and puts on a show while doing it, with real Wagyu steak among the cuts. The menu also covers sushi rolls and tempura, and the restaurant sits on the second floor of Kalima Resort above Kalim Beach, with Patong Bay spread out below. A seat at one of the teppanyaki tables is recommended for watching the cooking up close.

Okuna Sushi is a Japanese restaurant inside the Jungceylon shopping center, and its fish comes in from Japan every week. The salmon sashimi arrives in thick slices, and the dish diners single out by name is the Mr. Ghibli Special.
“The service is very good, and the food is reasonably priced for the quality and portion you get.”

Yoi sears its aburi salmon rolls lightly and grills its chicken skewers over hot coals. The sashimi here is served as a platter on ice, with tuna, salmon, squid and salmon roe, and the yakisoba is brought to the table on a hot iron skillet. The kitchen fills its large ramen bowls with chashu pork, boiled egg and bamboo shoots, and sake bottles line the shelves above the open counter.

How the points work
We read every independent published best-of list we can find for the question. Each list gives 10 points for first place, 9 for second, down to 1 for tenth, and 5 points to each place on a list with no order. Points are added up. A business must be in the top 10 of at least two lists to be ranked. Rankings are never sold. Full method.
