Khao Phra Thaeo is the last stretch of evergreen rainforest left on Phuket, about 23 square kilometers of hills that climb to 442 meters in the north-east of the island. A 4-kilometer trail, walked with a guide, crosses the forest from Ton Sai Waterfall to Bang Pae Waterfall, and both falls have pools to swim in. Beside Bang Pae, the Gibbon Rehabilitation Project returns white-handed gibbons rescued from captivity to the forest, where langurs and slow lorises live among some 80 kinds of birds.

“Beginner to intermediate level trail with lots of different types of terrain to navigate.”

Sirinat takes in the northwestern shore from Nai Thon through Nai Yang to Mai Khao, with coral reefs offshore and red, white and black mangroves behind the sand. Casuarina groves and beach forest shade the sand at Nai Yang, where the park headquarters runs a campground and national park bungalows. Baby sea turtles are released on the beach each year, and at low tide a rocky sandbar at the north end of Nai Yang lies open for snorkeling.

How the points work

We read every independent published best-of list we can find for the question. Each list gives 10 points for first place, 9 for second, down to 1 for tenth, and 5 points to each place on a list with no order. Points are added up. A business must be in the top 10 of at least two lists to be ranked. Rankings are never sold. Full method.

Award badges

Each business in the top 3 can show its Phuket Ranked award on its own website, free of charge. Ask and we will send the badge and add it for you.
