Sirinat takes in the northwestern shore from Nai Thon through Nai Yang to Mai Khao, with coral reefs offshore and red, white and black mangroves behind the sand. Casuarina groves and beach forest shade the sand at Nai Yang, where the park headquarters runs a campground and national park bungalows. Baby sea turtles are released on the beach each year, and at low tide a rocky sandbar at the north end of Nai Yang lies open for snorkeling.

Kata Beach Community Park is a stretch of soft lawn and tall palms just across the road from Kata Beach. Its playground of slides and swings sits beside a jogging track and a row of outdoor workout machines. Shaded gazebos with benches give a cool place to sit, looking toward the sunset over the bay.

Suan Luang Park opened in 1987 on old tin-mining land to mark King Rama IX's 60th birthday, and today it spreads over 350 rai around a central lake. A shaded four-kilometer loop and the paths around the lake give runners and walkers more than six kilometers without traffic. Most evenings from about six, free Zumba and aerobics classes fill the courts, open to anyone who wants to join.

How the points work
We read every independent published best-of list we can find for the question. Each list gives 10 points for first place, 9 for second, down to 1 for tenth, and 5 points to each place on a list with no order. Points are added up. A business must be in the top 10 of at least two lists to be ranked. Rankings are never sold. Full method.
