Trisara's villas sit along forested paths on a hillside above the sea, each one large, set well apart from its neighbors and built around an infinity pool facing the sunset. Inside there is marble, dark wood paneling, a soaking tub and an outdoor shower, and by the second morning the staff know how each guest takes breakfast. PRU, the resort's restaurant, cooks from Trisara's own organic farm and holds a Michelin star, and the Michelin Guide gives the resort two Keys, its mark of an exceptional stay.

Amanpuri opened on New Year's Day 1988 as the very first Aman, on a former coconut plantation where Adrian Zecha had set out to build himself a holiday home. Its villas are private homes with their own pool and kitchen, looked after by a dedicated team that includes a personal chef. Ed Tuttle drew the pavilions from traditional Thai temple architecture and the old capital of Ayutthaya, and at the top of the hill a 27 meter dark-tiled pool sits in a granite forecourt with a wide staircase down to the beach.
“While you are swimming in the sea, the staff prepare dry towels for you.”

“Tucked into a private peninsula above the Andaman Sea, it feels less like a hotel and more like a serene, perfectly curated world that exists solely for your peace.”

Banyan Tree Phuket's 217 villas each have their own pool, spread around a lagoon across an 89-acre estate. At the Terra Kids Club, children join workshops built on local traditions, and the resort also runs hands-on Thai cooking classes. Down on Bang Tao Beach, the Rava Beach Club has a kids' pool and play area of its own.

How the points work
We read every independent published best-of list we can find for the question. Each list gives 10 points for first place, 9 for second, down to 1 for tenth, and 5 points to each place on a list with no order. Points are added up. A business must be in the top 10 of at least two lists to be ranked. Rankings are never sold. Full method.
