The Shore is an adults only resort of pool villas on a jungle hillside above the Andaman Sea, and every villa has its own infinity pool and a sunken lounge. With no children on site, it suits a honeymoon or an anniversary more than a family trip. Buggies carry guests between the villas and The Harbor, an open air restaurant above the main pool, and the sea view villas look out to the sunset.
“One of the best resort experiences I've ever had.”

Banyan Tree Phuket's 217 villas each have their own pool, spread around a lagoon across an 89-acre estate. At the Terra Kids Club, children join workshops built on local traditions, and the resort also runs hands-on Thai cooking classes. Down on Bang Tao Beach, the Rava Beach Club has a kids' pool and play area of its own.

Trisara's villas sit along forested paths on a hillside above the sea, each one large, set well apart from its neighbors and built around an infinity pool facing the sunset. Inside there is marble, dark wood paneling, a soaking tub and an outdoor shower, and by the second morning the staff know how each guest takes breakfast. PRU, the resort's restaurant, cooks from Trisara's own organic farm and holds a Michelin star, and the Michelin Guide gives the resort two Keys, its mark of an exceptional stay.

How the points work
We read every independent published best-of list we can find for the question. Each list gives 10 points for first place, 9 for second, down to 1 for tenth, and 5 points to each place on a list with no order. Points are added up. A business must be in the top 10 of at least two lists to be ranked. Rankings are never sold. Full method.
