Red Mountain was built on land that had been a tin mine for decades, and Jon Morrow and Al Tikkanen laid the course out around the flooded canyons and cliff faces the miners left behind. It opened in 2007 and was voted among the top three new courses in Asia that year. The signature hole is the par 3 17th, where the tee sits on a cliff about 50 meters above the green, so the 156 yards on the card play much shorter.

Tiger Woods began the final round of the 1998 Johnnie Walker Classic here eight shots behind Ernie Els and won in a playoff, and the 13th on the Canyon Course, where he carried the canyon, is now called the Tiger Hole. Yoshikazu Kato designed both courses on old tin mine and rubber plantation land, the Canyon in 1991 and the Lakes in 1999. Fred Couples counts the Canyon's 17th among the best par 3s anywhere, and the clubhouse between the courses is built in Japanese Meiji era style with a river running through it.

Jungle-covered hills ring the valley in Kathu where Loch Palm is laid out, and its front nine wraps around Crystal Lake, the largest lake on any course on the island. Water comes into play from the opening holes, most of all at the par-3 fourth, where it runs from tee to green, before the back nine heads inland and opens up. Its wide, palm-lined fairways and forgiving rough suit mid and high handicappers, and few balls go missing over a round.

How the points work
We read every independent published best-of list we can find for the question. Each list gives 10 points for first place, 9 for second, down to 1 for tenth, and 5 points to each place on a list with no order. Points are added up. A business must be in the top 10 of at least two lists to be ranked. Rankings are never sold. Full method.
