Banyan Tree Phuket opened in 1994 as the group's first resort and began the idea it became known for, a villa with a pool of its own. Today 217 of those villas sit around a lagoon on an 89-acre estate, with the spa's treatment rooms set among gardens at the water's edge. The signature treatment, the Royal Banyan, uses Thai ingredients and a fragrance made for the spa alone.

SAii Laguna Phuket sits on the strip of land between a lagoon and Bang Tao Beach, and Mr. Tomyam, its Thai restaurant, sets its tables on the sand. The resort treats and bottles its own drinking water, up to 700 glass bottles a day, and a public tap lets guests fill their own. Its main pool ends in a 55-meter water slide, the longest at any Laguna property.

Mövenpick Resort Bangtao Beach mixes classic Thai and contemporary design across its residences, and guests can book a chef to cook in their own villa. Each day the resort sets out bite-size chocolates for its guests, and the menus put Swiss dishes beside Thai ones. The start line of the Laguna Phuket Triathlon is minutes away, and racers staying here get a free early breakfast and a shuttle to it.
