Monday to Saturday, each night at Patong Boxing Stadium starts with the youngest, lightest fighters and builds through about eight bouts to the main event, with a live band playing as each boxer performs the wai kru. The raised stadium seats take in the whole ring, and ringside tickets, which come with a stadium T-shirt, put you right under the ropes. Every ticket includes a ride from hotels in Patong, Karon and Kata, and anyone tempted to try it can train at the stadium gym, which welcomes beginners, women and children, then watch that night's fights on the same 2,000-baht package.

“Really well organized from arrival to finish.”

Bangla Boxing Stadium is where HBO filmed the Muay Thai fight in the third season of The White Lotus, and it has been a launchpad for both Thai and foreign fighters. It moved from Bangla Road to a bigger hall behind Jungceylon, opposite Banzaan Fresh Market, with more seats and better facilities. The Muay Thai brand Yokkao runs the fight nights with the stadium, and the bars of Bangla Road are a short walk away.

“Brilliant fighters, brilliant hosts and a sensational essential experience of Thailand.”

“I really like seeing all the traditional rituals before, during, and after each match.”

Every Friday night the ring at Rawai Muay Thai camp on Wiset Road holds a fight card that puts local boxers in with Thai and foreign fighters. Ringside guests can have their photo taken with a boxer after the fights. By day the camp teaches Muay Thai, including the ancient Muay Boran style, to visitors of every level.

“Quite rustic but that really helps with the vibe of a good Muay Thai stadium!”

“Atmosphere at the stadium was positive and I went there as a solo traveller and ended up talking with many people”

How the points work

We read every independent published best-of list we can find for the question. Each list gives 10 points for first place, 9 for second, down to 1 for tenth, and 5 points to each place on a list with no order. Points are added up. A business must be in the top 10 of at least two lists to be ranked. Rankings are never sold. Full method.

Award badges

Each business in the top 3 can show its Phuket Ranked award on its own website, free of charge. Ask and we will send the badge and add it for you.
