Walkabout is a sports bar beside the Karon Whale Resort, where nine screens, one of them 80 inches across, carry live sport, AFL and Formula 1 included. Aussie draught beer is on tap, and on weekends local rock bands play, sometimes with the owner joining in. Families are welcome through the day, and the staff are good with children.

Churchill is a bar and restaurant below the Rattana Beach Hotel in Karon that runs from breakfast to well past midnight. Most nights bring live music or a DJ, with Wednesday set aside for the live band. From the kitchen, the Thai-style steamed sea bass with lemon and chili is a favorite.

Ocean Bar took over a former laundry on a corner of Patak Road and turned it into a small cocktail bar looking out toward the Karon beachfront. Its frozen mango daiquiri has a following, and the bartenders keep house music playing and bowls of nuts coming.
