The Beach Cuisine is a beachfront restaurant on Bang Tao with a French chef who puts Thai and French cooking on the same menu. Whole fresh fish is slow-cooked to order with an hour's notice, and the chicken is smoked for nine hours. Tables run from the dining room out to the terrace and down onto the sand, facing the Andaman Sea as the sun goes down.

The Boathouse serves dinner on a terrace above Kata Beach, looking across the bay to Koh Poo. Seafood leads the kitchen, with Phuket lobster Thermidor among the main dishes, and the wine list is long enough that staff help pair a bottle with the meal. The terrace faces west over the bay, so dinner lines up with the sunset.

La Gritta is the Italian restaurant of the Amari resort, laid out over several wooden terraces built down at sea level among coconut palms. Chef Giordano Roscini runs the kitchen, which makes its own pasta, and the Australian Tomahawk is cut for two. At sunset the tables at the water's edge fill first, so book ahead and ask for one.

How the points work
We read every independent published best-of list we can find for the question. Each list gives 10 points for first place, 9 for second, down to 1 for tenth, and 5 points to each place on a list with no order. Points are added up. A business must be in the top 10 of at least two lists to be ranked. Rankings are never sold. Full method.
