Amritsr is the most established Indian restaurant group in Phuket, with more than 20 years on the island and six branches led by its flagship on Patong's beach road. The cooking is North Indian and Punjabi, and chole bhature, spiced chickpeas with fried bread, is one of the house specialties. The kitchen is halal certified and keeps a long vegan menu.

Owner Sam Sethi is usually at the door of Bollywood to greet you, and he opened the place in 2014 as somewhere to meet his own business community. The room has ochre walls hung with framed Bollywood film posters, and the cooking is lighter and less oily than the usual curry house, closer to food made at home. If you know the classics already, try one of the plates his daughter Priya added, such as Amritsari fish and chips in a Punjabi spice coating.
