Little Edo specialises in Edo-style shabu-shabu and sukiyaki, cooked at the table with naturally marbled wagyu or Kurobuta pork. The dining room on Wirat Hong Yok Road has a small Japanese garden inside, and staff keep yukatas on hand for guests who want to dress up for photos. Sushi, sashimi, uni and foie gras fill out the menu beyond the hotpots.

Nozomi is a Japanese izakaya with a Thai streak, and at its Boat Lagoon branch the tables look out over moored yachts, with live music outside in the evening. Every table starts with a free cob of grilled sweet corn, and the menu mixes sushi with izakaya plates such as karaage. Portions are generous for the price, and dogs get a water bowl at the table.

Hana Cafe + Ramen is the original branch of a Japanese ramen house, and walking in feels like stepping into a shop in Japan. The tonkotsu ramen, with a mellow broth, fragrant garlic and noodles cooked to your chosen firmness, is the order, and the chicken and black garlic ramen runs it close. Fish for the sushi is flown in from Tokyo, and it works as a café too, with coffee and desserts.
