Pa Mai has been serving khanom jeen to Phuket Town's breakfast crowd for more than fifty years, from a shop on Satun Road beside the Pluk Panya municipal school. Diners take a plate of rice noodles and ladle on one helping from more than nine curries, among them crab curry, green curry, beef and the pungent fish-innards gaeng tai pla, then pile on greens and pickles from the trays. The fried chicken and the hor mok steamed fish curry go early, and the shop closes at 1 in the afternoon.
“Best khanom chin. Self service on the noodles and customization.”

“The green curry is really good but show up early to get the amazing fried chicken.”

Khanom Jeen Saphan Hin stays open into the evening, from 8.30 in the morning until 7 most days, and its tables near the shell roundabout at Saphan Hin are busy from start to finish. Six curries go over the rice noodles, from crab and green curry to beef and the pungent gaeng tai pla, and the fresh vegetables that come alongside on two big trays are free to refill. Crispy fried chicken, hor mok and fried fish cakes share the counter with Thai desserts such as sticky rice with kaya custard.
“Truly my favourite meal in Phuket. The noodles, the herbs, everything!”
a Google reviewer
“The sweet crab curry was delicious, my favourite against the funkier dishes like Gaeng tai pla.”

How the points work
We read every independent published best-of list we can find for the question. Each list gives 10 points for first place, 9 for second, down to 1 for tenth, and 5 points to each place on a list with no order. Points are added up. A business must be in the top 10 of at least two lists to be ranked. Rankings are never sold. Full method.
Both lists we found are unordered, so they give every shop the same 5 points. Only these two shops appear on both lists, so they tie for first place. Nineteen other shops tied for third place, each named on a single unordered list, so we publish only the two that tied for first.
Award badges
Each business in the top 3 can show its Phuket Ranked award on its own website, free of charge. Ask and we will send the badge and add it for you.
