Chillva draws a mostly young Thai crowd, and its two corners of shipping containers stacked two high hold bars with upstairs seats that look out over the whole market. A stage sits beside a pond in the main area, while the Retro Area at the back has softer lighting and tables set out more loosely. The food runs from pork skewers to fried insects and crocodile meat, and on Tuesdays a vintage market brings out secondhand clothing.

Lard Yai, southern Thai for "big market," turns a heritage street of the old town over to stalls each Sunday, set down both sides and along the middle. The restored Sino-Portuguese shophouses that line it are lit in changing colors after dark, a look the street owes partly to a 2010 project that buried its overhead power cables. Phuket specialties such as Hokkien noodles and coconut ice cream are sold along it, and the market has spread onto a parallel street.

Malin Plaza is an open-air market at the quiet southern end of Patong Beach, and most people come as much to eat as to shop. The bazaar section sells beachwear, bags and leather goods, some of it from air-conditioned shipping containers, and bargaining is expected. Seafood is picked from the stalls and grilled on the spot, and the stalls take cash only.
