Naka is the island's big weekend night bazaar, near Central Festival, and it keeps going long after you expect it to end. Rows of stalls sell clothes, souvenirs, local products and secondhand finds, and haggling is part of the deal. At the far end the street food center does grilled skewers, seafood, Pad Thai and desserts cheaply enough that people come just for dinner and stay the whole evening.
“The energy is electric, with a buzzing atmosphere and a massive layout that keeps you exploring for hours.”

“I really liked the salmon, and the desserts were good as well.”

Lard Yai, the Sunday walking street, closes Thalang Road in Phuket Old Town to traffic from 4 pm, and stalls run for about 360 meters between Sino-Portuguese shophouses lit in changing colors. This is the market for things made locally, silver jewelry and hand-painted ceramics among them, often sold by the people who made them. Stalls take cash or Thai QR payment, and the crowd is thickest after 7 pm.
“There were so many things to see, buy, and try, from delicious local street food and desserts to souvenirs, handmade products, clothes, and unique gifts.”

“Would definitely go back to old town just to see the market again.”

Jim Thompson is a Thai silk label, and people buy its silk scarves, cushion covers, bags and light clothing as gifts finer than the market versions. The little silk elephant toys are the usual souvenir, and the linen shirts suit the heat. Phuket has two shops, one in Central Phuket, and if a size is missing from the rails the staff can usually get it within a day.
“Silk scarves are something special. Beautiful beach pareo.”

How the points work
We read every independent published best-of list we can find for the question. Each list gives 10 points for first place, 9 for second, down to 1 for tenth, and 5 points to each place on a list with no order. Points are added up. A business must be in the top 10 of at least two lists to be ranked. Rankings are never sold. Full method.
