Rock Salt is the beach restaurant of The Nai Harn resort, built out on a rocky outcrop with an open terrace under a light canopy, closer to the water than anything else on the bay. The blackboard menu follows what Rawai's sea gypsy fishermen bring in on their day boats, cooked by a chef who came from Michelin-starred kitchens in London and Bangkok. Port Phillip mussels come two ways, marinière or in yellow curry, and the rosés on the wine list are chosen to go with the seafood.

M&M's is an Italian pizzeria near Nai Harn Beach that has been going for more than 20 years, and the owner still works the room herself. It sits in an open-air pavilion under a Thai-style roof with orange walls, and the pizzas come thin and crisp from a wood-fired oven alongside a long list of pastas. Fresh watermelon juice is a house favorite, and on busy evenings a queue forms at the door.

Unni's started on Koh Phi Phi more than a decade ago before opening in Phuket, and its Nai Harn branch on Soi Saiyuan is built around birria tacos, burritos and quesotacos with a cup of consommé on the side. Smash burgers are the other half of the menu, including a Mexican-style burger and a vegan one on a housemade bean patty under a heap of avocado. Margaritas run at happy-hour prices all day, and a crowd of digital nomads, fitness regulars and expats fills it on weekends.
“The taste of its dishes was so authentic and admittedly better than many of those in the US.”

How the points work
We read every independent published best-of list we can find for the question. Each list gives 10 points for first place, 9 for second, down to 1 for tenth, and 5 points to each place on a list with no order. Points are added up. A business must be in the top 10 of at least two lists to be ranked. Rankings are never sold. Full method.
