Chekhoff calls itself a home hearth in Phuket, and its Russian menu runs from beef borscht with sour cream and a bun to Tatar manti filled with lamb and potato. The honey cake and the ice cream are made in house, and blini come with red caviar. Portions are large, and the restaurant sits on a bar street near Kata Beach yet is not loud even at the outdoor tables.

Gagarin, a Russian family cafe in Kata, is known for its cosmic borscht, and the rest of the menu keeps to traditional dishes, from pierogi and cabbage rolls to Kiev schnitzel. Portions are generous in the Russian way, and the owners take real care over both the cooking and the service. The room is designed down to the smallest detail, and children have a playroom of their own.

Spice House cooks Russian food that tastes like home to Russians on a long stay, with borscht and pelmeni dumplings on the menu, and it has regulars of more than 15 years. The pork ribs are big enough for two, and at the Porto de Phuket branch in Bang Tao the owner comes to the table to suggest dishes to people new to Russian food. A meal there may open with a cranberry drink on the house, and the branch is about 25 minutes from the airport, handy for a last lunch before a flight.

How the points work
We read every independent published best-of list we can find for the question. Each list gives 10 points for first place, 9 for second, down to 1 for tenth, and 5 points to each place on a list with no order. Points are added up. A business must be in the top 10 of at least two lists to be ranked. Rankings are never sold. Full method.
