Siam Bakery is a French owned bakery that has been part of Phuket Town for years, a simple room with jazz playing and a shelf of colorful crockery. Regulars order the almond croissant for its crunchy crust, and the ham and cheese baguette at lunch. Prices are low, and the owner chats with customers in French and English.
“Good size croissants, many options and good coffee.”

La Tarte Dorée is a French bakery and cafe in Rawai, in the south of Phuket, run by a French pastry chef. The counter holds tarts, croissants, quiches and cakes made in a European style that is not overly sweet. Locals stop in for breakfast or a coffee break, and many have been coming for years.
“The lemon Tarte was excellent and the other offerings were all perfectly made...such excellent french tartes in Thailand!”

Zurich Bread bakes its bread and cakes fresh each day without trans fats, and regulars start coming in at breakfast. The usual order is a grilled chicken sandwich on the house bread with a bowl of creamy mushroom soup. The Kathu branch has a small pond out back, and people often take a chocolate orange tart home.
“They even had a live bread-making event while we were there”

“Nice & cool, big windows to let in the light.”

How the points work
We read every independent published best-of list we can find for the question. Each list gives 10 points for first place, 9 for second, down to 1 for tenth, and 5 points to each place on a list with no order. Points are added up. A business must be in the top 10 of at least two lists to be ranked. Rankings are never sold. Full method.
