Banzaan is a modern two-story market hall with seafood, meat, fruit and Thai sweets on the ground floor. The routine is to choose your fish, prawns or crab downstairs, then carry the bag upstairs, where the kitchens cook it by weight and usually add rice and a vegetable dish. Bargaining is normal at the seafood stalls, and in the evening a night food market runs alongside.
“Prices are generally similar, and the seafood is very fresh.”

The central market on Ranong Road is two markets side by side, the big public wet market and the Downtown Market in a lane beside it, one of the island's oldest. Cooks shop here in the early morning for spices, curry pastes, dried fish and herbs most visitors will not recognize. The vendors gladly explain what each one is, and small Burmese cafes nearby serve breakfast.
“A feast of the senses.”

Cherngtalay Fresh Market sells the day's fruit, vegetables, seafood, chicken and beef from stalls across the road from the Cherngtalay police station, with ready-cooked local food and a few clothing and accessory stalls among them. It is busy with people who live in the area rather than visitors, and its small car park fills early.

How the points work
We read every independent published best-of list we can find for the question. Each list gives 10 points for first place, 9 for second, down to 1 for tenth, and 5 points to each place on a list with no order. Points are added up. A business must be in the top 10 of at least two lists to be ranked. Rankings are never sold. Full method.
