Lock Tien fries its thick yellow Hokkien noodles with pork, squid and egg until they pick up a little char, then tops them with red char siu. The fresh spring rolls, which its sign calls hundred-year spring rolls, are wrapped in skins made in house and covered in a thick, sweet brown sauce. You order at the hatch from photo panels in Thai and English, in the shophouse on Bangkok Road where the family moved in 2025 after leaving its old corner food court.

Mee Ton Poe has fried Hokkien noodles at the clock tower roundabout since 1946, and its mee pad Hokkien is thick yellow noodles with pork and seafood in a brown gravy, with a soft egg on top. Most tables add a few pork satay skewers, and the shop next door serves the same noodles as a soup. Bring cash, because the shop does not take cards or bank transfers.
“As a Phuket local, Mee Ton Poe has been one of my favorite traditional restaurants since I was young.”

“The taste has stayed authentic and original over the years, which is why I still keep coming back.”

At Naka Weekend Market the grilled seafood stands in the middle of the food section are the main draw, with whole sea bass and giant prawns coming off the grill with rice and a dipping sauce. Around them are pad Thai, grilled pork skewers and mango sticky rice, at prices lower than restaurants in the tourist areas. Walk the food section once before you buy, since a line of Thai families is the surest sign of a good stall, then eat at the shared plastic tables.
“Every time I thought I had reached the end, there seemed to be another section to wander into.”

“I personally grabbed some Pad Thai, and it was fresh, flavorful, and incredibly affordable”

How the points work
We read every independent published best-of list we can find for the question. Each list gives 10 points for first place, 9 for second, down to 1 for tenth, and 5 points to each place on a list with no order. Points are added up. A business must be in the top 10 of at least two lists to be ranked. Rankings are never sold. Full method.
