Marni has five tables inside and a few more on the terrace, and they fill even out of season, so book before you go. The kitchen is in view from the tables, and the modern Neapolitan pizzas are made fresh there and baked in a wood-fired oven until the rim puffs up. Chef Korn Kantapat Sinpradit runs it with his sister, and the dessert list has a tiramisu with pistachio gelato.

MODO bakes Detroit-style pizza, thick squares of slow-fermented dough cooked in steel pans so the edges caramelize while the middle stays soft. The pepperoni goes well with the marinara sauce, and the Supreme is loaded with toppings for meat lovers. Bring friends and order a full tray to share, since the squares are filling, in a room in Phuket Old Town painted blue and red around a robot theme.

Ask for the Zappa at Da Moreno @ Town, because it is not printed on the menu: a rectangular pizza baked on cast iron, a little smaller than the round ones, with a thin, crisp crust. The printed menu lists 57 pizzas, baked in a wood-fired oven you can watch through the partly open kitchen. Away from pizza the kitchen sautés clams with white wine, garlic, cherry tomatoes and basil, and the house-made tiramisu is light.
