Boat Avenue is the shopping quarter of Bang Tao, some 30,000 square meters of boutiques, restaurants and salons just before the entrance to Laguna Phuket. Its Container Mall is built from brightly painted shipping containers stacked two stories high, with small shops on both levels. Another 20 or so boutiques fill B-Mall next door.

Lemongrass House began when American Bobby Duchowny, a former surfer who had worked in Hollywood film, moved to Thailand in 1996 and started making neem oil. The shop's own soaps and massage oils are made with natural ingredients, and the business has grown into a chain of shops across Asia. In Cherngtalay it trades from a cluster of shipping containers painted yellow and green, and the scent of oils and candles fills the rooms inside.

Banyan Tree Gallery runs a handful of shops across the Laguna Phuket resort complex, selling handicrafts gathered from all over Asia. Their shelves hold jewelry, hand-woven textiles and Asian art, chosen for their quality.
