Nikita's is a seafront restaurant that has been running for more than 35 years, with its tables set beneath a giant tamarind tree hung with white paper lanterns. The front row sits so close to the sea that at high tide the water runs in underneath the tables. Beside the seafood the kitchen cooks pak miang stir-fried with egg, a Southern Thai specialty, and the bar keeps a full wine list and its own cocktails, among them the Bramble in Phuket.

Rawai View is a Thai restaurant in a thatch-roofed, open-sided wooden house at the water's edge under tropical almond trees. The kitchen cooks Thai food at full strength rather than toning it down for visitors, and the seafood, lobster included, comes fresh and in generous portions. Folk musicians play in the evenings, and a short list of wines goes with the fish.

Kook and her Italian husband Massimo run this Rawai restaurant themselves, and the menu is split between Thai and Italian cooking. Pad Thai and massaman curry sit beside lasagna, spaghetti carbonara and pizza, and portions are generous. The couple make guests feel at home, and some visitors come back twice in a week.
